With the 7th selection in the 2019 NFL Entry Draft the Cleveland Browns Select.... Ashton Manningham, Defensive Back Wisconsin!
Pro Career:
That is where it all started last off-season for the Browns. Already deep in the secondary they couldn't pass up the skillset that Manningham brought to the table and they were happy to make him the newest starter in the secondary. Ashton wasted no time fitting in as he pushed Derrick Kindred to backup role and saw the trade of Briean Boddy-Calhoun to the Bears. Manningham used his exceptional cover skills to snag a total of 7 interceptions in his rookie campaign while recording 55 tackles (3TFL) one Fumble Recovery and one Touchdown.
College Career:
Manningham was a walk-on football player at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, having received no Division 1-A scholarship offers out of high school. He was not awarded a scholarship until his senior year, despite the fact that he had been a regular starting safety before that season and had already been named All-Big Ten twice. Noted for his cover skills, leaping ability, and sure tackling, he totaled 21 interceptions (tied with Jamar Fletcher for the most in school history) and made 281 tackles. He held the Big Ten Conference career punt return yardage record with 1,347 yards until Michigan's Steve Breaston eclipsed his mark in 2006.
