It’s almost time for the second draft of the league, so I thought it’d be cool to do a mock draft. Hope you guys enjoy!
ending up with the #1 overall pick. They need some help on the offensive line, and Clemmings is their best bet in a draft that lacks first round talent on the line.
2. Tenessee Titans - DT Vincent Harrison, Alabama
If the Titans end up trading Marcus Mariota away before the draft, they’ll definitely be
taking a quarterback with this pick. If Mariota stays, however, I see them taking Harrison.
He is a big, strong defensive lineman who will fit in nicely in Tenessee’s rotation and has
the potential to be their defensive anchor for years to come.
3. New York Jets - DE Spencer Mcilwain, UCLA
On a roster that lacks pure star power, the Jets take the best player available. Mcilwain
will fill in the Jets need of a pure edge rusher.
4. Miami Dolphins - QB Noah Marler, Stanford
The Dolphins will finally find their quarterback of the future with this pick. Marler is
arguably the best quarterback in this class. He dominated on the college level, leading
Stanford to a national championship. He has a cannon for an arm, but he may need
to sit a year as he is inexperienced as a starter.
5. Houston Texans (via CIN) - OLB Harmon Shoate, Florida State
The Texans got real lucky acquiring the Bengals pick last offseason. They’ll pick up
Shoate, who dominated on the college level this past season. He had a fantastic combine and he’ll be a welcome addition in Houston.
6. Denver Broncos - QB Zachery Wilcox, Florida
After moving on from Case Keenum this offseason, the Broncos will hope that they
will finally solve their quarterback problem with this pick. Wilcox is a guy who has a ton
of talent and was a 5-Star prospect coming out of high school. He’s the most pro-ready
QB in the class and will be ready to lead the Broncos from day one.
7. Oakland Raiders - DE Deontae Gooch, Pittsburgh
With this pick, the Raiders will boost an already strong pass rush that consists of Khalil
Mack and Dante Fowler Jr. Gooch is a guy that can play as a linebacker or as a lineman
in the 3-4 and 4-3. He led the ACC in sacks this past season and is only 22 years old.
8. Arizona Cardinals - ILB Javier Mitchell, Oregon
With their first-round pick, the Cardinals take one of the best linebackers in this class.
After a strong combine, Mitchell rose up draft boards late in the draft process. He was an
underrated guy who made a name for himself in the Senior Bowl. He has a lot of playing
experience at Oregon and was a leader of their defense. Arizona hopes he can do the
same for them.
9. New England Patriots - WR Dejuan Lester, Texas A&M
The Patriots add the best WR in college football to an aging receiving corps. Lester will
be a nice new weapon for second-year quarterback Sammy Silver.
10. Washington Redskins - C DeMarcus Gipson - Tenessee
The Redskins made some big moves this offseason and are gearing up to play with
the big guys in the NFC. With Gipson, they’ll bolster up a mediocre offensive line in a
young talent with all the potential in the world.
11. Detroit Lions - DE LaJarvis Gold, Florida
As the fourth defensive lineman taken in a strong class, Gold would be the top prospect
in an average defensive line class. He dominates opponents with his pure strength, which was displayed when he benched 37 reps in the combine. He will be a welcome additon to the Lions defense.
12. Los Angeles Rams - OG Melvin Hunter, Florida State
In what may seem like a bit of a risky pick at first, the Rams need a lot of help on their
offensive line. This does not mean that Hunter is lacking any talent, however. He leads
Florida State’s offensive line last season, which was #1 in the country. He’d be higher on
draft boards across the league if it weren’t for his off the field issues, though.
13. Los Angeles Chargers - S Jordan Brooks, LSU
In this scenario, the Chargers luck out and get one of the best players in the draft.
Brooks is one of the best defensive backs to come out of LSU in a long time. With Jahleel
Addae in the twilight of his career, Brooks will be a perfect partner in crime for
Derwin James on the back end of this dangerous Chargers secondary.
14. Indianapolis Colts - QB Cory Colinet, LSU
After shocking the league earlier this week by trading Andrew Luck to the Redskins, the
Colts are now in need of a shiny new quarterback. Colinet is the biggest question mark
player in the top of the draft. He is similar to Josh Allen coming out of college. He has
a great arm and a huge frame, but he may struggle in the other parts of the game.
15. Seattle Seahawks - DE DeMarcus Daniel, Ole Miss
The Seahawks need some help across from Frank Clark on the defensive line so I have
them taking DeMarcus Daniel. Daniel is a great all-around guy who isn't especially good
at one thing but is more balanced. He’s quite good in the run and against the pass and is
just the guy that the Seahawks need for their defense.
16. Philadelphia Eagles - OLB Tyree Durant, Notre Dame
The Eagles get a good, solid linebacker in Durant. He has the ability to play both insides
and outside linebacker. He was a 3-year starter in college for the fighting irish and was a
big part of their national championship team two years ago.
17. Atlanta Falcons - OG Brennan Heimburger, Texas
The Falcons haven’t had the best of luck as of late, but they’ll get a nice offensive
lineman with this pick. Heimburger is young, and specializes in pass protection,
which was a problem for the Falcons last season.
18. Minnesota Vikings - HB, Maurio Elliott, Michigan State
The Vikings will luck out in this situation and get a beast of a player at HB in Maurio
Elliott. Elliott, who is the cousin to Cowboys HB Ezekiel Elliott, was second place in
heisman voting and led the Big Ten in all-purpose yards can step in and maybe propel
the Vikings into the postseason.
19. New Orleans Saints - QB Austin Tamm, Ohio State
After Drew Brees retired in the offseason, the Saints were in need of a quarterback.
They signed Case Keenum to a one year deal, but he isn’t the answer long term. Tamm
is a guy who can sit behind Keenum for a year, and come in next year prepared to lead the Saints without them skipping a beat.
20. Baltimore Ravens - S Kevin Sample, Wisconsin
The Ravens are a team that does not really have many needs. I can see them going with
Sample here. He had a monster combine and is a guy that can play both FS and SS. He’d go well with Tony Jefferson in the backend of that Baltimore defense.
21. Buffalo Bills - CB Deandre Livingston, Duke
The Bills get a guy who can fit right in across from Tre White in the secondary for them.
Livingston has a ton of pure talent and is good in both man and zone. He will benefit
from being in a great secondary and won’t have to rely on his speed (or lack thereof ) as he did in college.
22. San Francisco 49ers - WR Griffin Trotter, Michigan State
Another Michigan State star being taken in the first round, Trotter will help the 49ers
tremendously on offense. He’s a big, possession receiver who can be a matchup
advantage for the 49ers against their opponents. Garropolo finally gets his true #1
receiver here which will let him reach his max potential.
23. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - CB Torri Christian, Wisconsin
The Buccaneers will address their biggest need here with this pick. One of the best
lockdown corners in college football, Christian is able to keep up with the best receivers
out there. He is incredibly fast and had the fastest 40-yard dash out of all corners in the
draft.
24. Pittsburgh Steelers - HB Barry Arryn Gillislee, Michigan State
The Steelers had one of the best rushing games in the NFL last season. With Shady
McCoy’s retirement, they’ll need to find a replacement for him in Gillislee. Gillislee did
not see as many touches as he would’ve liked as he was often behind teammate Maurio
Elliott. When he did get the ball, though he was lethal. He averaged a 5.3 YPA this
season and is still young. He has a lot of potential to be the workhorse back for Pittsburgh.
25. Kansas City Chiefs - DE Clayton Pead, Montana
The Chiefs will get a great pass rusher later in the first round here with Pead. He is a
small school prospect who had a great performance in the Senior Bowl, recording 4
sacks and forced fumble. He has the most potential out of all of these edge rushers
in this draft and the Chiefs may have lucked into a generational talent.
26. Cleveland Browns (via CHI) - ILB Calvin Fayson, S.C State
The Browns have a veteran linebacking core and the pick of Fayson will bring a much
needed young talent in this position group. Fayson is another small school guy who
has played way above his level. Cleveland has a potential superstar with this pick.
27. Houston Texans - CB Efrem Mallard, Oregon State
With their second first-round pick, the Texans will get another good defensive guy. Had
Mallard declared for the draft last season, he would have been a top 10 pick. He still
has that top 10 potential, but he had a rough season and ended it with a bad shoulder
Injury. If he can return to that potential, the Texans will look like geniuses with this pick.
28. Dallas Cowboys - TE Cody Osborne, LA. Tech
After taking a receiver last year in the first, the Cowboys will add another offensive
weapon in Osborne. He’s a possession guy who is huge at 6’6, 245 lbs. With this addition, a dangerous Cowboys offense becomes even more scarier.
29. New York Giants - WR Ray Neal, N.C. State
After rumors circulating this offseason that Odell Beckham Jr. could be traded, and the
Giants not having much depth at receiver after Beckham, Neal is a good pick here. He’s
a big red zone threat guy similar to AJ Green or Julio Jones. Alongside Beckham in New
York, Neal could be able to feed off of matchup advantages with weaker corners.
30. Cleveland Browns - OT Charles Bragg, Pittsburgh
The Browns add Bragg to an already strong offensive line. Bragg is quite the athlete
for somebody, his size and will fit in nicely anywhere along the line for Cleveland.
31. Green Bay Packers - DT Deandre Barnes, USC
The Packers lost DT Kenny Clark in free agency, so they’ll draft his replacement here.
Barnes is a big, strong, power rusher who will succeed on the Packers top defensive
unit.
32. Green Bay Packers (via JAX) - OT Miles Streeter, USF
The Packers wrap up the first round picking up an offensive lineman who can fill their
needs. He had a good combine and a pretty good few seasons at USF and the Packers
could really use a guy like him if they wanna make it back to the SuperBowl.
